" You will get satisfaction out of doing something to give back to your community that you never get in any other way. "
Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Colwood is part of the area known as the West Shore  and is 10 kilometres west of Victoria. It is a growing community of 15,500 permanent residents.

Colwood was originally one of four large farms established by the Hudson’s Bay Company in the 1850’s to supply the growing population of Fort Victoria. It is best known for Hatley Castle and Fisgard Lighthouse. Fisgard Lighthouse was built in 1860 and is the oldest working lighthouse on the West Coast today. Hatley Castle was once a 565 acre Edwardian estate owned by the premier of the time. Today it is home to renowned Royal Roads University. The grounds and the beautiful gardens are still intact for everyone to enjoy.

Colwood is also home to the fabulous Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, known as one of the best recreational facilities in Canada. Set on 98 acres, you have your choice of a nine hole golf course, baseball, curling, lacrosse, lawn bowling, jogging, skating, or swimming. There are two additional golf courses in the community to choose from. There are lots of biking, hiking, and horseback riding throughout Colwood. Colwood is part of the Galloping Goose Trail, a 100 kilometre trail system which you could take all the way to Sooke and back.

Colwood is a full service community. There are several elementary schools, a middle school, and soon to be a high school. There is a full range of health care and Vancouver General Hospital is close by. There are several grocery stores, financial institutions, gas stations, and a full range of shops and businesses.
